WP Beverages Honored with 2023 Innovation Award by Naviant

WP Beverages was awarded the 2023 Innovation Award and recognized for the creative and highly successful innovative uses of its OnBase document management and ABBYY capture solutions.
The criteria for the prestigious Innovation Award are based on how the solution has changed the way the organization does business, the return on investment, and the extent to which the organization is using the solution to meet broader organizational goals. Additionally, the award’s criteria consider the level of innovation and creativity present in the organization’s development, use, and vision for the solution.
WP Beverages, a beverage distributor committed to providing superior products and exceptional service to its clients, was awarded for its creative, impactful use of the OnBase intelligent process automation solution and the ABBYY capture solution in its accounts payable department and beyond. Before implementing its solutions, the company’s accounts payable department processed invoices manually, which meant that invoices were being emailed or mailed back and forth, requiring a lot of manual coding.
Today, OnBase has become a critical efficiency driver for WP Beverages’ Accounts Payable department. This solution, supplemented with ABBYY capture, has supported the company in its journey to reduce the number of touchpoints and degree of manual intervention associated with its accounts payable process. It has also increased WP Beverages’ visibility into its processes.
On the difference the solutions have made, Shawn Montanio, Director of Finance and Accounting at WP Beverages, said, “The biggest [efficiency] is transparency. People just understand processes better, which makes us more efficient, and obviously better with communication. Being able to obtain information quicker is key.” Regarding WP Beverages’ goal to reduce the number of touchpoints regarding AP processing, Montanio said, “We basically cut down our time, from an enterprise standpoint, by at least 50%.”
To take its AP process improvement even further, WP Beverages recently turned to ABBYY FlexiCapture. Since WP Beverages handles a wide variety of invoice and document types, they previously had an accounts payable employee who spent 20+ hours a week monitoring the front end of the AP process. ABBYY’ capture solution, which they’re about to go live with, is set to drastically reduce that time commitment to allow the employee to pursue more value-added work. So far, the response from the WP Beverages Accounts Payable team has been positive. Montanio remarked, “Nothing but great responses from my team, the processes have gone very smoothly.”
